CHAPTER 11
-
Goodbye and Good Luck
(You have to make your own)
This is not the end - it is only the beginning. The beginning of a science that our generation and future generations will enlarge and perfect until it suits them, thereby fashioning our new moral and legal code which provides commandments that are advantageous and enforceable. These will bring us into an era where the motives for social violence are reduced and war is eliminated. God and the Devil will take their places alongside Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, and our erroneous philosophies would be superseded by one that does solve humanity's social and economic deficiencies. We will climb out of the pit where nature holds all of those that cannot escape its influences, and ascend above the dark clouds of superstition that have been blinding us, leaving our ethnic prejudices and our deplorable competitive existence behind. As we climb into the light of reality the trail that we must follow will become more clear, giving us the ability to gauge and circumvent the obstacles we meet. We can be assured that humans are now able to rescue themselves from their competitive progressions, and be thankful that we are not permanently destined to everlasting struggle and strife. We have but to use the knowledge that we have gained in order to better our prospects on this planet.
We may wish that humanity had begun to solve its economic disparities and competitive adversities much sooner. We then would not have damaged our ecology so severely, or depleted our natural resources to the extent that we have done. It has recently become more obvious that our civilization is nearing its end, not because of the inability of large segments of the human population to gain the required sustenance, for nature has always limited our numbers in this manner, but because of ecological disruptions as the result of contaminants and pollutants. It will take time to educate the masses so that they can overcome nature's competitive influences and guide the course of human civilization toward desirable objectives. Barring nuclear warfare, we will probably experience many institutional breakdowns and economic shortages that would decimate our numbers. We should come to understand the need to live in balance with the opportunities that our planet provides, and use our advancing technologies to produce the comforts and plenties we desire. Realizing that our life supporting ecology is very fragile, we will surely attempt to prevent its destruction. With intelligent foresight and evasive action, our species can become the beneficiary of its technology rather than the casualty of
it.
