A LOOK AT OUR WORLD

Many of the powers of nature can be detected with our five sense organs, but some others were only discovered after we developed our modern scientific instruments. The heat of the sun controls the weather on earth, which produces the needs for all species. The sun's gravity controls the orbits of its planets. Our moon's orbit is mainly controlled by the gravitational attraction of the earth, and both the sun and the moon cause the tides on our oceans. Gravity determines the weight of material on earth according to its type and quantity. The same quantity of material would weigh far less on the moon. In recognizing and exploiting the powers of gravity mankind dams the rivers to generate electricity and to raise water levels to irrigate his crops. We exploit the powers of nature when we use windmills or turbans to pump water from our wells or to generate power. In early times we burned mostly wood and coal, and in our present age we power our machinery and heat our homes with the gasses and oils that we have found deep underground.

Insects migrate toward plants that are most desirable, and when the same types of plants are grown in close proximity to each other, as they are in our farming practices, insects and plant diseases can spread more easily throughout a field. We spray to control insect pests as well as the weeds that abound in our crops. To lessen our exposure to plant diseases we rotate our crops as well as design genetic varieties which are more disease resistant and better yielding. Diseases also spread more easily amongst barnyard species that are penned together, and with some highly contagious outbreaks we have to doctor or sacrifice the whole herd.

Humans also have come to live in close proximity with their neighbors, and when disease outbreaks occur, those that are more resistant survive to pass on such genetic variations to their offspring. In warm climates where malaria has been common for ages some people have mutated as the result of the disease, known as sickle-cell anemia. I have been told that in some areas where the aids-virus has been present much longer, that some prostitutes have developed a resistance to the disease. Your doctor will tell you to take all of the antibiotics he prescribes, for if you don't, the germ or virus may survive and become more resistant to our medications. Some of these mutated germs find their way to our hospitals and become continually harder to control. We now realize that germs as well as all other forms of life mutate as circumstances encourage, and that is why people have different reactions to the same germs and diseases.

The evolution of species has continued throughout the ages, but its progress in most instances is too slow to be seen in ones lifetime. It is only disclosed and proven to be true, as we catalogue and date the fossils and artifacts that we have found. Such evidence supplies us with a record of past events, but the many spiritually influenced societies have envisioned a magical forefather that offers them eternal salvation if they obey his commands. The earth becomes a testing ground to determine who will go to Heaven, and who will go to hell. Such spiritual teachings provided a goal for ancient societies to achieve, and they established many laws and holidays to please their spiritual advisers. There are the blue laws of the Christians, and similar ones enforced by other denominations. Some customarily pray at mealtime and at bedtime, and others abstain from food or sex until the sun goes down. These daily acknowledgments toward the presence of helpful deities and angles in the sky indoctrinate the young, and most adults continue through life without rejecting their spiritual training and practices. Our national and spiritual leaders are as confused as the rest of their citizens, and in promoting the brand of religion that pleases the public are able to secure their positions. Unfortunately, there is no one with the power to rescue us from our fate: for spiritual nonsense blinds us, our misguided passion drives us, and it's going to get a hell of a lot hotter before the heat stops us.
